Drawing on archival audio, original interviews, and home video clips, Dean’s documentary biography thrillingly recounts the unbelievable-but-true story of swooningly beautiful screen siren, ardent anti-fascist, and ground-breaking inventor Lamarr, an Austrian Jewish émigré and unapologetic individualist who scandalized Hollywood by appearing nude in the 1933 Czech production Ecstasy, then socked it to the Nazis by creating a laser guidance system for Allied torpedoes. A bittersweet celebration of a woman whose life story is a testament to society’s chronic distrust of brains combined with beauty.
