Saulnier followed up the left-field success of his Blue Ruin with this gruesome “Nazi Punks Fuck Off!” white-knuckler, in which penniless punkers The Ain’t Rights (Anton Yelchin, Alia Shawkat, Joe Cole, Callum Turner) show up for a booking at a backwoods Oregon club and find themselves fighting for their lives against a gang of skinhead psychos led by club owner Patrick Stewart. An arduous ordeal of a film that, thanks to Bloch’s dab-handed editing, a grippingly frantic performance by Yelchin, and the surging hardcore soundtrack, is almost impossible to tear yourself away from.
