ACE presents: Blue Ruin

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Jeremy Saulnier, Jeremy Saulnier
2013 / 90min / DCP

Violence begets violence begets violence in Saulnier’s terse, tense, and unusually contemplative revenge thriller, which opens with haunted vagrant Dwight (Macon Blair) getting word that the man responsible for his parents’ deaths is about to be released from prison and setting out to settle scores—only to unwittingly unleash a vicious reprisal. Whittled down to the bone and instilled with vicious, startling snap by Bloch’s cutting, Saulnier’s minimalist, low-budget homegrown genre gem came out of nowhere—well, rural Virginia—to win the prestigious FIPRESCI prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

Q&A with editor Julia Bloch on Friday, September 15th, moderated by Caryn Coleman
