In The Sky on Location, Mangolte, under the avowed inspiration of J.M.W. Turner, embarks on a cinematic travelog across the American West, exploring as she does its knotty history, its awesomely austere landscapes, and the subtle changes of color that mark its passing seasons. With There? Where?, which Mangolte calls her “naïve look at southern California by an outsider,” and Visible Cities, which follows two female characters as they search for a home in the architecturally hostile environment of the SoCal desert.
