The Camera: Je or La Camera: I + Water Motor
No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Babette Mangolte
1977 / 95min / DCP
Mangolte’s second feature-length film as a director is a structuralist self-portrait, shot in the filmmaker’s adopted home of New York City, which documents Mangolte in the act of taking still photographs—first in studio settings, then in the street—from the perspective of her camera’s viewfinder. An absorbing and conceptually dazzling rumination on the very concept of “point of view” as well as the complex relationships between photographer and subject, between the still and moving image. With Water Motor, a filmed record of postmodern dancer and choreographer Trisha Brown in a solo performance.
Introduction and post-screening Q&A with Babette Mangolte on Sunday, September 3rd
