Justine (Garance Marillier), a lifelong vegetarian, has just started attending the same Belgian veterinary school that her older sister Alexia (Ella Rumpf) goes to, and after she’s forced to eat a raw rabbit kidney during a hazing ritual, she suddenly finds herself experiencing carnivorous cravings that her sibling understands all too well. Winner of the FIPRESCI Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, Ducournau’s gruesome drama of sexual awakening and campus cannibalism found its way onto a great many best-of-the-year lists, and announced the appearance of a new virtuoso of body horror.
