ACE presents: The Graduate

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Mike Nichols, Mike Nichols, Mike Nichols, Mike Nichols, Mike Nichols, Mike Nichols
1967 / 106min / DCP

One of the most beloved and influential American movies of the last half-century, Nichols’s film has been endlessly imitated for its evocative use of pop music (Simon & Garfunkel) and its attachment to single-character perspective—in this case that of Dustin Hoffman’s rudderless college grad Ben Braddock, who is torn between sweetheart Katharine Ross, and her worldly-and-very-thirsty mother, played to perfection by Anne Bancroft.

This 4K restoration was created from the 35mm original camera negative by the Criterion Collection. The color timing was done by referencing a previous color grading that had been supervised by Grover Crisp at Sony Pictures and approved by director Mike Nichols. The 5.1 surround-sound remix, approved by the director, was created from the 35mm magnetic tracks and the original soundtrack recordings at Chace Audio.

Q&A with Bobbie O'Steen, wife of the film's editor, the legendary Sam O'Steen, moderated by Molly O'Steen. Bobbie is the author of The Invisible Cut: How Editors Make Movie Magic.
