Weeds on Fire

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Chan Chi-fat
2016 / 95min / DCP

The true story of the Shatin Martins, the first Hong Kong youth baseball team to win a league championship back in 1982, provides the loose basis for Chan’s sleeper hit crowd-pleaser, nominated for seven Hong Kong Film Awards. At Kei Kok College, an underfunded school serving delinquent kids from surrounding shanties and public housing estates, principal Liu Kai-chi hopes to keep his students off the street and out of the Triads by starting a baseball team, but faces a war of wills with his star player (professional baseballer Tony Tsz-Tung Wu) as difficult as any match-up of the season. A beautifully shot, swing for the fences drama, made with obvious love for both baseball and the city of Hong Kong.
