Between the Lines

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Joan Micklin Silver
1977 / 101min / DCP

With a corporate buyout in the offing, the staff of a Boston-based counter-culture rag Back Bay Mainline must face an identity crisis and possible unemployment in Silver’s fond, perceptive, and slyly funny look at the bygone world of the “alternative weekly,” already in peril at the time of the film’s making. A hidden gem of ’70s American cinema, with Jeff Goldblum, Bruno Kirby, Michael J. Pollard, and John Heard—reunited with Silver in 1979’s Chilly Scenes of Winter—but a few of the names in its peerless ensemble cast.

“The late Joan Micklin Silver is one of my favorite world builders and this could be her richest.”—Graham Carter
