Shrek

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Andrew Adamson, Vicky Jenson
2001 / 90min / DCP

Shrek!, a 1990 picture book by long-time New Yorker cartoonist William Steig, became a cultural phenomenon thanks to DreamWorks’s irreverent CGI-animated riff on Steig’s fractured fairy tale. A malodorous, antisocial ogre, Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers), finds his solitary swamp hideaway unexpectedly invaded by fairy-tale characters sent into banishment by the evil Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow); in hopes of regaining his treasured isolation, Shrek strikes an uneasy pact with the loquacious Donkey (Eddie Murphy), one of the new arrivals, agreeing to help Donkey rescue the imprisoned Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) from Farquaad’s grip. “Jolly and wicked, filled with sly in-jokes and yet somehow possessing a heart.”—Roger Ebert, The Chicago Sun-Times

Extended intro from Mike Myers Sunday, April 16, 1pm
