“This program of video and sonic works examines plant extraction and commodification from colonialism through its reverberations and aftermaths. The consequences of these histories have led to the misleading renaming, taxonomizing, and weaponization of plants, the expropriation of lands, the erasure of knowledges and technologies, and the abstraction of flora’s entanglement with other organisms. With a wide range of approaches and tones, this program traces these histories and explores other ways to engage and communicate with nature, reinventing what was called nature in the first place.”—series curators Counter-Encounters

Organized by Counter-Encounters (Onyeka Igwe, Laura Huertes Millán, Rachael Rakes), this is a version of a program first initiated with the Tate Modern, London. With thanks to Valentine Umansky and Carly Whitfield.

Program curated and all series notes written by Counter-Encounters.

Counter-Encounter Collective member Onyeka Igwe in attendance to introduce and moderate a post screening Q&A with Aria Dean on Sunday, March 19th at 1pm
