An experimental documentary of rare beauty and delicacy, filmmaker, programmer, projectionist, and archivist Listorti’s ruminative second feature is an extended meditation on the parallels and interconnections between cinema and plant life—specifically, the acts of caring for, classifying, and preserving them. A lovely, lyrical work made with a mixture of original and archival footage, Herbaria positions conservation as an act of resistance to creeping homogeneity, and a means to ensure biodiversity in both the natural and cultural worlds.
