Aparajito

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Satyajit Ray
1956 / 110min / DCP

The second part of Ray’s Apu Trilogy follows the protagonist of Pather Panchali—played by Pinaki Sengupta as a boy, and Smaran Ghosal as an adolescent—as he enters his teenage years, leaving his rural village to join his father in the crowded holy city of Benares (present-day Varanasi) before heading on to Kolkata to pursue academic studies. Observing Apu’s moral, intellectual, and sentimental education, his struggles to adapt to city life, and his difficult relationship with his mother, Aparajito cemented Ray’s reputation as a master filmmaker, becoming the first film to win both the Critics Award and Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.

4K restorations made by the Criterion Collection in collaboration with the Academy Film Archive at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
