Visits by mysterious drones, dissembling politicians, and ruthless soldiers of fortune (led by the great Udo Kier) precede a rousing, revolutionary climax in this beautifully controlled genre exercise that synthesizes the influences of John Carpenter, ’60s Cinema Novo, and Italian spaghetti westerns into an astonishing, original form.
