Revealing interviews with Russian film industry figures that include directors (Lana Gogoberidze and Kira Muratova) and actresses (Inna Churikova and Nonna Mordyukova) are woven together with clips from female-centered films like Muratova’s The Long Farewell and Vladimir Batalov’s The Women in Potter’s documentary rumination on the representation of women in Soviet-era Russian cinema, and the roles that women have played in making it. Produced in the early days of glasnost, it’s a backwards glance at Soviet cinema, at times bitter, at times fond.
