​​Potter herself stars as a Paris-based filmmaker named “Sally” who, while laboring unhappily on a Hollywood screenplay, finds an outlet for her frustrations in studying tango under an Argentinian instructor (lauded dancer Pablo Verón) with whom she strikes an unusual pact: if Pablo can teach her to tango, Sally will make him a movie star. Sally’s half of the bargain proves difficult to pull off in the world of the movie, but in point of fact Potter does make Verón, in his debut, a formidable screen presence, all while she’s turning in an amazing multi-hyphenate performance as dancer, choreographer, and composer of part of the film’s seductive score.
