Skeptical graduate student Helen Lyle (Virginia Madsen) befriends Anne-Marie McCoy (Vanessa Williams) while researching tenacious superstitions in the Cabrini-Green housing projects of Chicago’s Near North Side. From Anne-Marie, Helen learns the legend of “Candyman” (Tony Todd), a shadowy, hook-handed figure of urban legend that some of her neighbors believe to be responsible for a recent murder. Helen’s incredulity turns to fear, however, when a mysterious man matching the Candyman's description starts to trail her. A classic of Section 8 Gothic adapted from a Clive Barker tale, which cuts deep into buried, bloody American history while serving up a parade of unforgettable nightmare images.
