Miami mobster Chili Palmer (John Travolta) is sent to collect on a bad debt incurred by Hollywood B-movie maker Harry Zimm (Gene Hackman—playing a hack, man), only to find himself bit by the show biz bug, romancing his target’s leading lady (Rene Russo) and hustling to sell his life story as a Major Motion Picture. Drawn from a novel of the same name by cult writer Elmore Leonard, Sonnenfeld’s comic caper and Hollywood satire follows Chili as he tries to play it cool in the hotspots of Miami, Vegas, and LA, discovering along the way that the movie business can be an awful lot like a criminal enterprise.
