If Beale Street Could Talk

No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Barry Jenkins
2018 / 119min / DCP

In the hands of Moonlight director Jenkins, James Baldwin’s fifth novel, set in 1970s Harlem, becomes a film that’s by turns languorous, intimate, and impassioned, detailing the travails of two young people who’ve known one another since childhood—Kiki Layne’s Tish and Stephan James’s aspiring artist Fonny—first succumbing together to love, then fighting together against hate, as Tish and her mother (Regina King) race against time to exonerate Fonny, imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit.
