The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie
No upcoming showtimes scheduled.
Director: Luis Buñuel
1972 / 102min / DCP
A who’s who of postwar Euro stars—including Delphine Seyrig, Fernando Rey, Stéphane Audran, and Bulle Ogier—convene for a swank dinner party that never occurs, their attempts to sit down to a meal thwarted by a series of increasingly absurdist interruptions: an inedible roast, a dead host, a police raid, a stranger arriving to tell the tale of his murderous youth... A drawing room comedy of unflappable upper-crust manners played according to dream logic, this is perhaps the most subversive film ever to win an Oscar—much to Buñuel’s horror!
The 4K restoration was produced by Studiocanal in 2022 with the support of the CNC. Restoration work was carried out by the L'Image Retrouvée laboratory using elements stored in the French Film Archives.
