Barbara Harris and Bruce Dern star as a sham psychic and a penny-ante con artist/cab driver who run afoul of professional kidnappers William Devane and Black—a quartet made up of two perfectly counterbalanced comic duos. By now surrounded by disciples and imitators, and an industry unto himself, Hitchcock’s macabre, playful swansong is the crisp, beautifully performed summation to a mighty career.
