Fri May 22
Director: Woody Allen
1987 / 85min / 35mm

An enormously tender cinematic memoir that evokes the brief reign of the wireless as America’s preeminent parlor entertainment, the episodic Radio Days moves freely between the home life of a Jewish family in Rockaway Beach and a glitzy Manhattan where gangsters rub shoulders with radio personalities, among their number Shawn, unlikely stentorian voice of The Masked Avenger. A warm recollection of a disappeared world that has something of the quality of a careworn photo album, featuring a superb Mia Farrow as a cigarette girl with dreams of stardom, Diane Keaton offering up a sublime performance of Cole Porter’s “You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To,” and Larry David as a “Communist Neighbor."
