1980 / 117min / DCP

Author and renowned racounteur Bret Easton Ellis comes to Metrograph to celebrate the publication of his new novel, his first in thirteen years, The Shards.

Bret Easton Ellis will be presenting the 1980 classic American Gigolo, starring Richard Gere, written and directed by the inimitable Paul Schrader and featuring a smoldering Giorgio Moroder soundtrack, screened on 35mm and preceded by a special conversation with Mr. Ellis in theater.

"When I was 15, I saw American Gigolo at the National Theatre in Westwood. Looking back, the impact the film had on me is impossible to tally... in the way it changed how we look at and objectify men, and altered how I thought about and experienced LA, its influence is vast and undeniable. The movie captures Richard Gere at the height of his beauty, when he was 30 but looks younger. His Julian is a happy, superficial capitalist with very little backstory. He just exists, floating through this world, an actor."—Bret Easton Ellis

This will be a General Admission screening with no assigned seating.

Please note: Unfortunately, due to severe color fading of the 35mm print we received from the distributor, this film will be screened on DCP.
