Director: Lodge Kerrigan
2004 / 100min / DCP

Kerrigan, whose debut Clean, Shaven was one of the most harrowingly immersive portrayals of schizophrenia ever put on screen, dove back into the depths of a turbulent, fractured mind with the equally-if-not-more accomplished Keane, in which Damian Lewis, playing a mentally unsound William Keane, wanders the dingy corridors of the Port Authority Bus Terminal and other sordid pockets of New York City. Haunted by the memory of his young daughter’s abduction, he eventually strikes up a relationship with a young mother and her child (Amy Ryan and Abigail Breslin). A work of brilliantly sustained discomfort and tactile seediness, raw, rigorous, and entirely riveting.
