Director: Andrei Tarkovsky
1986 / 149min / 35mm

Made when Tarkovsky was already suffering greatly from the lung cancer that would end his life, his last film is one of cinema’s greatest final testaments, a work that puts both pagan and Christian traditions of self-sacrifice into dialectic conversation. Shot in Sweden with renowned cinematographer Sven Nykvist and featuring several other Ingmar Bergman collaborators, including actor Erland Josephson, the gorgeous and deeply affecting film, winner of the Grand Prix at Cannes, takes place at a birthday gathering that’s interrupted by news warning of an imminent nuclear holocaust.

Distributor: Kino Lorber
