Radical Chiaroscuro: The Work of Darius Khondji

Born in Tehran, raised in Paris, where he cut his teeth as a cameraman shooting Super-8 films, and educated in the United States, the eminent DP Darius Khondji might best be described as a citizen of international cinema, his startlingly diverse body of work united by a constant dedication to excellence. As Khondji’s body of work has only grown richer in the years since Metrograph honored him with a retrospective in 2018, it’s time to get up-to-date with this 16-film series, encompassing his early collaborations with Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet, his first foray into Hollywood on David Fincher’s atmosphere-drenched Se7en, and his work for a who’s who of contemporary cinema’s most challenging and ambitious filmmakers (James Gray, Ari Aster, Bong Joon Ho). A wide-ranging survey of the awesome output of one of our greatest living image-makers.
