Currents of Southeast Asian Cinema

Founded in August of 2017 by filmmakers Visra Vichit-Vadakan, Anocha Suwichakornpong, and Aditya Assarat, Bangkok-based Purin Film Fund has, by providing grants and other assistance to individual filmmakers and organizations, become an invaluable source of support for cinema in Southeast Asia, having to date backed artistically ambitious works, many critically acclaimed and festival awarded, from Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Singapore. A series offering an overview of Purin’s astonishing accomplishments in only a few short years, filling a void left by often inadequate government support of the arts and helping to bring into being dozens of films that have expanded the possibilities of Southeast Asian cinema.

“Purin Film Fund was founded by filmmakers to support filmmakers. Understanding both the art form as well as the practical realities of filmmaking has been critical for us to ensure that the resources we provide go to the people who can make the best use of it. These artists and organizations are currently pushing the boundaries of Southeast Asian cinema and we’re proud to have played a small part in their success.” —Anocha Suwichakornpong & Aditya Assarat, founders of Purin Film Fund
