Producer, composer, brilliant Bach interpreter, and tenor saxophonist extraordinaire—perhaps best known for his classic albums Kakashi, Music for Commercials, and for his role as bandleader of Mariah (Utakata No Hibi)—Yasuaki Shimizu has also been a vital contributor of original music for films, television shows, and multimedia art installations since the beginning of the 1980s. On the occasion of Shimizu’s first North American tour, Metrograph and Palto Flats present a series that looks at this groundbreaking artist’s work in moving image-based art, including collaborations with Haruomi Hosono, Nam June Paik, and Ryuichi Sakamoto.
