Playground: Art Cinema for Tots
Experimental cinema does many things; one of its most crucial and revelatory functions is to reawaken us to the mystery and magic of perception—to return us, briefly, to childlike wonderment. With this in mind, Metrograph has introduced a new series, “Playground.” For its third edition, we have put together a suite of experimental films depicting journeys of imagination across cinema, with select works from Norman McLaren, Co Hoedeman, Carla Coma, Abbas Kiarostami, Jakub Kouřil, Khaled Mzher, and Yulia Aronova to dazzle and delight young eyes.
Director of Programming (and mom) Inge de Leeuw describes the experience: “The sound levels are dimmed, and there is a gentle light on, creating a relaxed atmosphere where young viewers feel at ease. They aren’t be confined to their seats; they can move around, explore, and enjoy the wonder of the big screen. It is a playful, interactive cinematic journey, designed with little explorers in mind.”
Each ticket includes free admission for one child, if you’d like to bring more than one child per ticket, please email Boxoffice@metrograph.com to book a seat.
