Killer Films 30th Anniversary
“Choosing which films to screen in celebration of Killer Films’ 30th anniversary was no easy feat. Every title holds a unique place in the long, winding journey of how this company came to be—each film is a chapter in our story. This selection highlights some of our earliest works, including Cindy Sherman’s cult horror gem Office Killer, the film that gave our company its name, and honors one of our most enduring collaborators, Todd Haynes; from Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story, made before Killer even existed, through to the film we’re preparing with him now, his presence has shaped us from the beginning. We’ve also included One Hour Photo, a venture into studio filmmaking that gave us one of Robin Williams’s most haunting and unforgettable performances, and three titles that epitomize the joy and madness of making work that defies categorization: John Cameron Mitchell’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Todd Solondz’s Happiness and Janicza Branco’s Zola. These films still inspire laughter, awe, and more than a few outrageous behind-the-scenes stories we love to tell.” —Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler, Killer Films
