Filmcraft: American Society of Cinematographers

On April 11, Amy Vincent, ASC, will visit Metrograph to discuss in-depth her work on two films distinguished by, among other things, the cinematographer’s preternatural ability to identify and capture on-camera the minute specificities of regional atmosphere. Through Vincent’s keen eyes, see the Louisiana bayou of Kasi Lemmons’s Eve’s Bayou (1997) and the trap houses and recording studios of Craig Brewer’s Hustle & Flow (2005), the latter which won Vincent the Sundance Film Festival’s Excellence in Cinematography award.

American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) is dedicated not only to advancing the art and science of the cinematography profession, but also to helping the public understand the role of the cinematographer and the impact their contributions have on a motion picture. With this series, ASC pairs a great film and a moderated conversation with that film’s cinematographer, providing a glimpse into one of cinema’s most vital artistic practices.
