Filmcraft: American Cinema Editors

ACE Presents, our popular collaborative series with American Cinema Editors (ACE), will continue in September and October with two very special screenings.

For one night only in September, Metrograph will be welcoming Geoff Bartz, ACE, to discuss in-depth his work on George Butler and Robert Fiore’s Pumping Iron (1977), a documentary that, in building up the competition between subjects Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno, moves like a fleet-footed thriller.

In October, Bobbie and Molly O’Steen will return to discuss legendary editor Sam O’Steen’s dab-handed work on Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby (1968), nothing less than a masterclass in slow-building, spine-tingling suspense.

American Cinema Editors (ACE) is dedicated not only to advancing the art and science of the film editing profession, but also to helping the public understand the role of the editor and the impact their contributions have on a motion picture. With this series, ACE pairs a great film and a moderated conversation with that film’s editor, providing a glimpse into one of cinema’s most vital but least understood artistic practices.
