The author of small-scale dramas that deliver enormous emotional impact, New York native Azazel Jacobs has carved out a unique space for himself in the world of American independent cinema, producing intimate character-driven films about fraught families and everyday obstacles that combine dramatic heft with an off-center, at times slightly surreal sense of humor. Culminating in the premiere of his latest film, His Three Daughters, this career retrospective offers views an opportunity to review Jacobs’s body of work from his 2008 breakout feature Momma’s Man onward, his own films screening alongside curated carte balance screenings of works that have provided him with inspiration through the years.
