Around Ludlow: Henry Street Settlement Movie Club
A new platform for the exciting community around Metrograph, including filmmakers, artists, arts’ organizations, and social clubs based in our home of Ludlow Street and the surrounding area, Around Ludlow celebrates our unique community, inviting our neighbors to come in and make themselves at home. The series continues this month with a guest programming stint from Henry Street Settlement Movie Club, a youth filmmaking workshop that was hosted by the Henry Street Settlement from 1968 to 1973, presented by Abrons Arts Center.
“From tender reflections on young love, comedic portrayals of neighborhood mischief, and heated debates about the moral quandary of war, these films amplify the perspectives, worries, and dreams of Lower East Side teenagers in the late 1960s and early 1970s. They stand the test of time over 50 years after their creation, demonstrating that the authenticity of young people’s storytelling can reverberate across generations.” —Ali Rosa-Salas, Vice President of Visual and Performing Arts at Henry Street Settlement & Director of Abrons Arts Center
