n+1 Presents an A. S. Hamrah Double Bill

A former movie theater projectionist and contributor to ’90s-vintage Boston-area ’zines, A.S. Hamrah, as a regular contributor of film criticism to n+1, The Baffler, and a checklist of prestigious English-language mastheads throughout the 21st century, has remained admirably detached from the consumer guide model that dominates American “film criticism,” and thusly one of precious few voices in that field that cannot be conveniently aggregated into Tomatometer paste. On the occasion of n+1’s publication of two new books by Hamrah, Last Week in End Times Cinema and Algorithm of the Night, he will visit Metrograph to introduce two films, George A. Romero’s Land of the Dead (2005) and Billy Wilder’s Ace in the Hole (1951), that just possibly have something to say about the state of our Republic and the images it produces today.
