David Hockney: A Retrospective
Original poster published in 1988 by The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
An increasingly scarce document from Hockney’s landmark exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, at that point his first in 18 years, which featured over 250 works and settled into New York City as the blockbuster show of the summer. A perfectly designed poster, featuring the iconic painting Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures) from 1972. In 2018 this painting sold at auction for $90.3M, at that time the most paid for a painting by a living artist.
An increasingly scarce exhibition poster, now mounted mounted on a linen backing by the previous owner, frame-ready.
Overall, the condition remains quite nice, though there is minor creasing throughout due to the mounted poster being stored rolled. Colors are bright and vibrant and this remains in wonderful condition for a vintage piece.
