A sort of thematic sequel to Black Test Car featuring a number of key personnel from that film, and one of several Yasuzo Masumura titles that deal with ruthless salarymen, The Black Report traces an investigation into the murder of the president of Fujiyama Foods, and subsequent trial, revealing a viper’s nest of underhanded allegiances and malicious motives beneath the surface of society. A marvel of narrative efficiency, starring Eitarô Ozawa’s unscrupulous attorney as possibly the most impressive specimen of total amorality to appear amongst Masumura’s rogues gallery of absolute bastards.
