Rainer’s exquisite film uses excerpts from her own diary as a teenager, psychoanalytic sessions (starring film theorist Annette Michelson), quotidian exchanges between a couple, and critiques of state-sponsored violence in West Berlin, South Africa, and the U.S. to evoke the daily experiences of power and repression.
