Ladies in Distress – Kalton C. Lahue (Signed by Actress Jane Novak)

$100.00

From Mary Astor and Bessie Love to Mary Pickford and Clara Kimball Young, 40 leading ladies from the silent era through the mid-century are profiled in depth, with seldom seen set photography and stills throughout.

This copy has the special distinction of being from the library of Jane Novak, who allegedly ran away from convent school in 1911, started her own vaudeville act, then relocated to Los Angeles, where she would go on to star in 115 movies throughout her Hollywood career.

An eight page chapter of “Ladies in Distress” are dedicated to Jane Novak’s life and career.

Additionally, an of-the-era store stamp from the legendary Larry Edmunds Cinema Bookshop in Hollywood appears on the front free endpaper, presumably originally purchased there, by or for Novak. Signed by Novak on her bookplate.

A lovely association copy of this well researched and compiled look at the women who shaped Hollywood.

In very good condition, age toning to the jacket and text block with light chipping to the jacket. The binding remains very strong with crisp pages.
