The Swedish painter and mystic Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) was, for decades after her death, a nearly forgotten figure in art history, but the small coterie of admirers who’d discovered the trailblazing abstract canvases she’d begun to produce around 1906 swelled to an army after a blockbuster 2018 Guggenheim exhibition of these visionary works, predicting and predating those of long-canonized abstractionists.
