There is a traditional, binary view that tends to treat movies and video games as natural enemies, like cobra and mongoose, or Mario and Bowser—but why can’t they be friends? In over thirty-some years of film and gaming history, the two mediums—one upstart, one established—inform and enrich one another in
innovative and unexpected ways. In conjunction with Metrograph’s run of Kurt Vincent and Irene Chin’s The Lost Arcade, a paean to the Chinatown Fair, we present a series located at the intersection of pixels and celluloid grain. So put your quarters down, because it’s on like Donkey Kong.
