Reagan at the Movies: Found Illusions

June 30 to July 5

Ronald Reagan was not only a movie star but a movie fan who, throughout his presidency, screened weekend double bills at Camp David, regularly quoted movie dialogue, kept current with stars like Clint Eastwood, and, in one of his first presidential statements, declared that “film is forever.” This selection of movies in which Reagan appeared before he became president or which impressed him marks the publication of J. Hoberman’s Make My Day: Movie Culture in the Age of Reagan (The New Press), the long-awaited conclusion to his “Found Illusions” trilogy, exploring the symbiotic relationship between Hollywood and Washington throughout the Cold War.
