Rachel Kushner Selects

May 12

Author of Telex from Cuba (2008), The Flamethrowers (2013), and The Mars Room (2018), Rachel Kushner, now incontestably established as one of America’s foremost novelists, has taken her readers on immersive journeys to pre-revolutionary Cuba, New York in the 1970s, and now over the walls of a women’s prison in California, in rigorously researched, seemingly effortlessly erudite volumes, written with brio, more than a touch of hilarity, and a knack for controlled chaos. For her dream double-feature, Kushner will present a pair of films dealing with the emotional lives of working-class characters, Michelangelo Antonioni’s Il Grido and Ken Loach’s Ladybird, Ladybird.

Kushner will be signing copies of The Mars Room between the screenings.
