An Evening with Claire Denis
Claire Denis in person
The story of film at the turn of the millennium is still unfolding, but when it is finally written, there is one figure whose preeminence is as good as assured. At once firmly rooted in the traditions of both French and world cinema and entirely dedicated to discovering and describing the particular rhythms, textures, and terrors of the postcolonial, neoliberal world, Denis is one of the handful of film artists whose every new work feels like an event, a figure who actually earns that most over- and misused word: Essential. In New York for the opening of her latest, High Life, Denis will visit Metrograph with two of her finest works from decades past, No Fear, No Die and L’Intrus, works that have seduced, mystified, and shaken moviegoers from the moment of their release.
