Morris Engel 100

April 8

François Truffaut, who should know, once stated that “Our New Wave would never have come into being if it hadn’t been for the young Morris Engel,” yet Engel remains sadly underappreciated in his native country. On the occasion of the Engel centenary, Metrograph celebrates the filmmaker and photographer’s remarkable career, which produced only three features but had an outsized effect on international moviemaking.
