Adam Bartos visited and photographed Chris Marker’s workspace beginning in the early 2000s. Bartos’ images paired with text by Colin MacCabe, and an introduction by Ben Lerner, resulted in a gorgeous new book, Studio: Remembering Chris Marker. A screening of Marker's Cat Listening to Music; Agnes Varda's Agnès de ci de là Varda, in which she visits Marker's studio; and Ouvroir, The Film, Marker's Second Life exploration featuring his cat, Guillaume-en-Égypte, will be followed by a panel discussion with Michael Almereyda and Ben Lerner. After the panel, Bartos will be signing copies of the book.
Michael Almereyda is a screenwriter and director, whose work includes Hamlet (2000) and Experimenter (2015). He is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, The Moving Image Creative Capital Award, and the National Society of Film Critics Special Citation.
Ben Lerner is a poet and novelist whose publications include Angle of Yaw (2006), a finalist for the National Book Award; The Lichtenberg Figures (2004), a Hayden Carruth Award winner; and, most recently, The Hatred of Poetry (2016).
Colin MacCabe and Susan Howe will not be attending as previously announced.
