CONGO OYÉ (WE HAVE COME BACK)
DIRECTOR: BILL STEPHENS
An absolute unknown work among Marker’s collaborations, made by filmmakers Bill Stephens, Paul and Carole Roussopoulas with Eldridge and Kathleen Cleaver, Congo Oyé was never completed, long-believed lost by all involved, and recently discovered in an unfinished version on videocassette. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion on this remarkable work.
Following the screening Kazembe Balagun and Matt Peterson will appear in person for a panel discussion.
Matt Peterson, a documentarian, co-directed the film The Native and the Refugee and is a member of Woodbine in Ridgewood, Queens.
Kazembe Balagun, a project manager for the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung New York Office, was a recent contributor for the book Finally Got the News: The Printed Legacy of the U.S. Radical Left, 1970–1979 (Common Notions Press).
