TUCKER: THE MAN AND HIS DREAM

1988 / 110min / 35mm

DIRECTOR: FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA

CAST: JEFF BRIDGES, JOAN ALLEN, MARTIN LANDAU

Coppola’s childhood dream project is not generally regarded as highly as his acknowledged classics, but few films have ever revealed so effectively the inner life of the filmmaker as creator. The film tells the story of Preston Tucker, an engineer/ entrepreneur/showman with a vision for the car of the future, who takes on the Big Three auto manufacturers in postwar Detroit and subsequently suffers their wrath. With Jeff Bridges as the chipper, beaming, dreaming Tucker, Martin Landau as his stodgy, earthbound partner, and widescreen cinematography by Vittorio Storaro that lends this story an epic dimension.

Tucker: The Man and His Dream is screening as part of Metrograph A to Z, a collection of films we think everybody should see. Click here for more info.
