DIRECTOR: GEORGES FRANJU

CAST: EMMANUELLE RIVA, JEAN SERVAIS, FABRICE ROULEAU

When bringing soldiers wounded in the trenches of World War I to rest up at her Paris villa, Emmanuelle Riva’s munificent Princess is grateful for the help she receives from Fabrice Rouleau’s well-connected young man in uniform, who conceals a startling secret. Jean Cocteau, who died before the film began shooting, adapted the script from his own 1923 novel, and Jean Marais provides the voiceover for this overlooked masterwork, an elegant bridge between generations of French cinema.

Thomas the Impostor is screening as part of Metrograph A to Z, a collection of films we think everybody should see. Click here for more info.
