THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE

1974 / 90min / 35mm

DIRECTOR: TOBE HOOPER

CAST: MARILYN BURNS, ALLEN DANZIGER, PAUL A. PARTAIN

Horror maven Hooper’s independent breakout isn’t subtle or insinuating: it relies on sheer primal revulsion, throbbing adrenaline, and blunt force trauma. It feels raw and ragged, and to the audiences of 1974 it must have seemed like a home movie from the bowels of hell. Some groovy young kids drive a van into central Texas and wind up being used for BBQ meat, trying to survive a long, harrowing night that unforgettably ends with a blood orange sunrise and Leatherface’s inimitable chainsaw dance.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is screening as part of Metrograph A to Z, a collection of films we think everybody should see. Click here for more info.
